**After going behind early, Cercle were able to create few opportunities in the first half despite putting in a lot of work. It was a very different story in the second half, but it was Union that would double the lead. Substitute Gboho brought life back into the match, but Cercle were unable to force an equalizer in a blistering final quarter of the game.**

The game couldn't have started better for the home side. Adingra faced up to Somers and delivered a perfect pass for Vanzeir, who had the simplest of finishes (1-0, 3'). Cercle were not impressed, though and started to press the home team high up the pitch, but Union's technical ability was often able to avoid the high pressing. When Union went long through Boniface and Vanzeir, it also provided some chances to make it 2-0. Vanzeir should have done better with Boniface's low cross. A bad pass from Majecki also created a huge chance for Teuma, but our goalkeeper was able to make up for his mistake himself.

The Cercle attackers were barely able to get involved but five minutes before half time, Cercle were almost level. Marcelin's knock-on after Vanhoutte's corner was clever, but Teuma cleared at the first post to help his goalkeeper.

With Ayase Ueda on in place of Lucas Torres, Cercle went looking for the equalizer after the break. It quickly had an excellent opportunity, but Moris kept the effort of the sliding Thibo Somers out of goal with a clever reflex save. At the other end, the first chance after the break came immediately. A fine through ball by Teuma found Adingra whp doubled the lead (2-0, 56').

The match seemed over, but Cercle wouldn't be Cercle if it didn't keep fighting. Ueda first missed a good opportunity, but after a clever collective attack, Gboho (2-1, 75') who had just come on, was able to find an opening goal. What followed was an unadulterated battle of football with chances at both ends. The best chance for Cercle was for Ueda, but Moris kept his side ahead with a fantastic save. At the other end, Majecki was also able to distinguish himself on a few counterattacks from the home team, so that it remained 2-1. Cercle pushed a strong opponent to the limit, but were left empty-handed.
